I used to think a Shure58, but I just used a jam/night mike about a week ago and really liked it, except you had to be directly in front of it to get the best results. Unfortunately I spaced out finding out the brand before I left! (duh)

I've used a Shure Beta 87 for years now. Love it.

BB, does that have a different look than the 58? And a on/off switch?

In the studio, it's hard to beat a good U-67.

I don't really have a favorite. I usually use an SM58 and an AT2020 condenser, because they work okay for me.

There's probably many more options available these days, but I'm happy with these.

I'm currently having a love affair with a Shure SM-7.

It sounds ridiculously good.

I'm also loving the EV RE20's my school has in their studios.

I love my Shure 58-Beta. A really good friend who works @ Sam Ash got me a great deal. It's awesome.

I also like the Beta 58. Most of the bigger sound companies around here have switched over to them.
