Can't complain, but sometimes I still do

FYI ... This is an update to a long out of the past thread.

------------------------------------------------

A little background lead in.

I have been tinkering with guitars for years and years (over 40 of'em) I don't get into trying to play "known music" too much I usually just play whats going on in my head.

I had this chord progression going on in my head and it had been there for a while (wish I had a decent way to get it onto the net, maybe in time here) anyway one of my buddies is a very accomplished musician so I got with him to get this recorded.

I laid down the basic rhythm track on acoustic 12 string and my buddy mike added some electronic drums and filled things in a tad ...

I had a story line in my head but no real flow and asked Mike to give me a hand ...

Well by the time I had left the session and got home I decided I was just going to write the lyrics ... and in about 20 minutes I had it all here as follows.

BTW: Maria is my wife and when I wrote this song we were not yet married and this song scared the living crap out of her ... however I also think it gave her the courage to actually marry me and that made it all worth while. The song is on tape and my buddy Mike performed it at our wedding ... very cool.

It's a very typical guy without love ... finally finds love ... happily ever after scenario ... nothing too over the top by any stretch ;)

OK I'm finished with my "Story Tellers" show.

read on ... might seem sort of choppy without the musical aspect ... but it isn't choppy on tape ... I hope to get it available in full form for real critic :)

Marias Song
By Blondestrat

All of those times spent
Wishing and wondering
Knowing there was something to share.

Day after day past
The dreams of my heart flashed
Still there was no one there.

I knew I had something to share.

Spending my time hoping to find
A love that just cant compare.

Day after day past
My dreams and my heart clashed
Still there was no one there

I knew I had something to share.
A love that just cant compare.

I saw you there
Soft lights through your hair
Eyes I would never compare.

Day after day past
The dreams of my heart flashed
But, Still there was no one there.

I knew I had something to share
Your eyes I knew Id never compare

Then came that day
You were looking my way
I knew that something was there.

Day after day past
The love in my heart flashed
Knowing there was something to share

I knew I had something to share.
A love that just cant compare.

You took my hand
My heart and my plans.
You know I will always be there.

Day after day will pass
The dreams of my heart will last
knowing you will always be there.

We both have something to share
A love that just cant compare
A love that will always be there.
I like the lyrics, especially the way in which you vary some of the phrases, almost like a fugue. Most love songs are corny but this sounds really authentic. Congratulations!

SantaClaws ...thanks for the kind words.

I have it on tape ... reasonably decent recording ... just need to get it to a format I can post.

I'll see what I can do about that.

Thanks again.

Good words. Feels very sincere. Santa had a good insight about the fugue. I would love to hear this as a song, and find the context of the emotions as you vocalize them

Very nice work.
Peace,
Ben

Nine and a half year old thread ... but I finally found it.

Short story: I was scraping the popcorn ceiling off in our house and as we got to Queenie's closet we had to empty the closet out (it's a 11' X 11' room) and as we sorted through totes and containers we finally found the long missing cassette tape.

We transferred it to a digital MP3 file and it's now available to be heard.

I always felt this was an unfinished thread, so here is the conclusion.

BlondeStrat, very nice song, well performed!

I like the way the instrumental solo section gives a break from the verses, so they are fresh when you return to them.

It's cool to have a song you wrote be a part of the history of your relationship with Maria.

Nice song Larry. It has a Jim Croce wholesomeness to it. "Something To Share" would be a good alternate title.

"Very nice song, well performed!"

"It's cool to have a song you wrote be a part of the history of your relationship with Maria."

Thanks tiller2, I do have to give all the actual performance credit to Mike. He also helped me with a nice little three chord turn around to get from verse to verse.

The chords were something I had been noodling for years. When Maria (AKA Queenie here on the FDP) came into the picture on a serious basis the lyrics turned toward her and the song as well. You are right it is now a well known and accepted part of our history.

"It has a Jim Croce wholesomeness to it. "Something To Share" would be a good alternate title."

Thanks for the kind words Larry. It's certainly not flashy, but it turned out OK for a guy like me with extremely limited musicianship ability.

The title you mention was what I had first gone with, then the realization of the motivation for the song lyrics took hold. you are exactly right though. ;)

"So Sorry I missed your thread last year. Nice tune. Good hook in there."

Hammond101, Thanks You and don't feel too bad about missing the post.

The song was written and recorded over 20 years ago, then the cassette tape was lost in a closet for over ten of those years ... gone to the World.

I'm just glad we found the damn thing. :)

Maybe if I can get myself up to speed with my own skills I'll take a crack at recording it myself.
