Hi Malcolm!

Not sure if I got your question right - or perhaps my post wash´t clear to begin with ;-)

My main amp is a ´66 bf Deluxe that I´ve been using for years now. 2nd best would be my sf Princeton Reverb, #3 is probably my Tweed Deluxe "clone" - but I´ll still hold on to my BJ ;-)

I hadn´t used the BJ for playing out in quite a while and I was amazed at how good it sounded in a full band scenario!
I´d recommend it to anyone looking for a no-frills, easy-to-use (and easy-on-the-wallet) amp.
I think it actually IS the "Tweed Deluxe" of today ;-)

cheers - C.

Hi guys!

Here´s another "heads up" for those who´d like a bit more VERB from their BJ!

The reverb on my BJ (1st version) was best described as "subtle", but it was fine for me (for the most part).
Now, last week I stumbled upon a new(ish) replacement-tank by Accutronics/Belton (made in Korea) and I thought I´d give it a try - and I´m overwhelmed by the difference!
This little amp now has really BIG reverb - I like it!

cheers - C.

Carston
Wasn't the 1st replacement an Accutronics? It seems that was what I put in.
So, this is ab updated opne?
Or, had you held off on swapping out?

Hi Malcolm!

Not sure what you mean...

I had read about people swapping the tanks in their BJ´s, but I never really thought about doing it myself...
Now that this Belton/Accutronics tank became available real cheap I thought I´d give it a try - and I´m very happy I did ;-)

The original tank was also made by Accutronics, but it offers much less/much weaker reverb.

How does it compare to a Ruby Tank?

Hi Big Joe!

Sorry, I can´t answer your question, as I never tried the Ruby...

But I found an interesting discussion regarding the various reverb-tanks on the TelecasterDiscussionPage - see link below.

Thanks for the reference Carsten.. I'll check it out. I put a Ruby in my BJ about 8 years ago. It was an improvement over stock Accutonics and an inexpensive experiment at $25. Not sure they still make them. But always looking for something better!

One last thought. I had Billm ( RIP) put a tapered pot on my reverb when I took my BJ to him for various mods. Tapered pot works wonders when dailingnin the desired Reverb level.
Bill was a great guy and made you feel very comfortable in his home. In fact, I visited him multiple times and he also put a T020 in both my BJ and PRRI.

Hi Big Joe!

You´re very welcome!

Great that you had the chance to meet Bill - so sad he passed away.
He did a lot for the "BJ crowd", for sure!
I did his reverb-mod to my BJ (the first version BJ had a weak/hissy/faulty reverb-circuit, but BillM sorted it out) as soon as I heard of it - and it worked wonders!
Now, with the new tank, I´m (almost) in reverb-heaven ;-)

I never thought that a simple swap of the reverb-tank could do so much for the reverb - almost makes me wonder if my old tank was bad to begin with...
With the old pan I usually had the reverb around 4 o´clock and you could say ok, it´s there - now I can dwell in reverb at that setting!
Good fun ;-)

cheers - C.

Carsten.. where did you buy the tank in my BJ? I may give it a whirl. I'm a big Reverb guy which is why I love my PRRI. I also had Bill to the Octal mod and run JJ 6V6s and a JJ 12AY7 in V1.

Hi Big Joe!

I bought it from a private seller from a local ad - but you can buy it for around $25/30 from any of the board-sponsors above.
Mine is the grey-painted Accutronics/Belton tank - seems like there´s also a black one (Accutronics/Belton), which is (supposedly) a bit different...

cheers - C.
