After almost 22 years, it's time to say goodbye to the FDP. It's time for me to retire fully. Rob is also ready to retire. Traffic has slowed to a trickle of what it once was and sponsors have seen the same thing.

It's been a daily habit for many of you and I know many friendships have been made here and it will be difficult to not wake up each day to check in and see what's going on in Moe's and the other forums.

There is not a drop dead date certain but it will likely be the first week of January. I have commitments to the sponsors to go through the year as well as those of you who have helped with donations.

I'm announcing this now so that if you guys want to meet somewhere else (another forum, facebook, whatever) you have time to discuss it in this thread.

If anyone wants to make a donation to help with the closing costs, they will be appreciated but otherwise, a fundraiser will not save us. I appreciate the core group of you who have supported the site year after year. Honestly, it was for you guys I kept the site going. After losing Amazon, Guitar Center, and Musician's Friend, it was clear to me that a fat lady somewhere was beginning to sing.

At some point, Rob will put up a banner pointing to this thread. I'm not going to post it in all the forums. I will also ask if he can open Moe's so people who haven't supported the site can participate in this forum for the next month.

I would sell the site but I haven't really put out many feelers as it becomes something else than what I envisioned all those years ago with someone else running it. It wouldn't be the FDP any longer other than its name. I am retaining the domain name but would sell it for the right offer to the right person.

I hope you all understand how difficult this is for me personally but there is just no way forward in 2020. A big thanks to all of you who did your part to make this place what it's been for so long.

I'm sorry to hear this. This site has been a great source of knowledge and entertainment over the years.

Thanks for all your efforts, Chris. And Rob too, of course.

There haven't been any mods but me and Rob for some years save for Iron Man who looked after the Strat forum but I can't remember the last time he did anything there.

Not a day I wanted to see, but, I fully understand. This site will be missed.

My thanks and appreciation are great for Chris, Rob and all who participated. I wasn't here since day one, but I think I'm around 14 years, and I counted on the daily visits. The tab for the FDP was open all day, every day, even though I was a slacker for posting.

Thank you all.

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day…

Call me a sentimental fool, but I just bought a star "for the road".

Learned a lot and enjoyed lots of laughs and good company here over the years, so I got my money's worth, to be sure.

Sing us out, lads...

Knowing this was coming doesn’t make it easier.

Thanks to Chris and Rob for keeping the FDP going as long as you have. Thanks to all the kind, knowledgeable people here who were always ready to answer questions and help in any way they could.

I was here every day, checking in to see what was going on. I received lots of great advice on what gear to buy - and buy - and buy...

When the FDP is gone, I’ll suddenly have a lot more free time, but I’ll miss it terribly.

This makes me unreasonably sad.

Thank you Chris, Rob and all who've been a part of keeping this place glowing tweed. I don't know how frequent I inject "...this forum I belong to..." in everyday conversation, but it's been a source of humor, technical knowledge and anecdotal information for many years. I will miss it immeasurably.

I'll miss it too. I'm going to have to retrain my muscle memory.

I would suggest that anyone with info in their profile (like photos) that they want to keep should copy that stuff. Also, any threads that may have info you want.

There's no way to leave the site up and static because the first crash will kill it anyway as no one will be around to fix it. So over the next weeks, pull what you need from the site and save it to your computer or print it.

Nothing lasts forever. Chris and Rob, I fully understand the decision to fully retire. Being retired myself, I found that there were some things I just needed to drop in order to make a break and move on to other stuff, or in some cases, move on to just less responsibilities.

Thanks to both of you for all the time you have put into this site over the years. I wish you both the best in whatever comes next in your lives.

It's been a helluva ride !

Thanks for the memories, gear an music tips and fuel my gas (rev mikey) all laughs,

but the band can't go on forever!

Well the exception might bee ZZ Top and the Stones.

Thanks Chris, Rob.

When it ends i'll have an upside down beer and toast the FDP

"Also, any threads that may have info you want."

Yeah, good point. Every now and then I'll search old archives and revisit old threads like watching a rerun. Old members gone, deceased, booted and of course us hanger ons. Where to begin.

Opened Moe's to the masses; that will be my LAST code tweak save keeping us afloat.

There will be no last minute reprieve, fwiw; as much as I've done, I cannot continue giving blood.

My stone is long dry.
