Well, I sold my 1974 D-41 I've had since new. Just didn't bond with it and it was too nice for me!
I decided to get one of the new Yamaha FGX5 dreads; and it's coming my way! Had to wait until a new batch came in from Japan and my Sweetwater guy (Matt) snagged one when they came in.
Can't wait! Have never bought an acoustic without trying it out, so I'm hoping it's a winner.

Congrats!

I have an AC3R and really enjoy it. Excellent playability, tone, and value. Beautiful sound plugged in as well. I went to GC and played all the concert sized a/e guitars and felt the AC3R was the best.

Full disclosure, I had so much fun playing the yammy that it led to buying a new D-18 which is in another league as a studio instrument but still play the AC3R a ton as a porch/couch/campfire guitar.

Wait, you had a D-41 for 45 years and didn't bond with it? Sounds like some marriages I've heard about. ;o)

Good luck with the Yamaha. I've had my FG-461S since '95 and love it even though I play my two Martins far more often these days. I've always liked Yamahas going back to my first FG (180?) that I bought in the early 70's.

I never played the 41 much. I wanted a less expensive mahogany guitar. I tried a number of D-18s and never found one that sounded great. I also couldn't find any Eastmans or Blueridge to try. So I went with the Yamaha as I think they are a great value. Hope so!

I have an old FG-150 that I love, but it needs a neck reset.

If anyone needs an inexpensive guitar, I'd recommend a Yamaha FG-830. $300 and really nice.

They do make really great guitars.

I have never worked on a Yamaha (acoustic or electric) that was sub-par in materials and/or construction.

Considering the volume of products they offer, their QC is as good as (probably better than) anyone else in the business--at any price.
