This is one I did a few years ago. I was never quite happy with the finish, nothing I couldn’t live with though. It was heavy so I never played though. I got a nice light ash body form Warmoth and did all the finishing last weekend and put it together yesterday. Now I love it and the strat contours are really comfortable.

The finish is called molotov, it’s a chameleon pearl again. It seems to go from dark red to orange then gold depending on the light. A couple coats of UV cured polyester grain filler then a couple coats of black primer. Wait a day followed by 2 mist coats and a flood coat of the pearl followed by 2 mist coats and 2 flood coats of clear. I use a 2 part 2K urethane.

Sorry about the bad pics, it’s raining here today so no nice sunny shots yet.

You get the nicest sparkle finishes.

That flip-fop gold flake looks great.

That finish is gorgeous! What do you mean when you say "flood coat"- I'm thinking heavy coat, but I imagine that could be tricky in terms of runs, etc?

Thanks guys.
Yep Tinkerer, just a heavy coat. It’s somewhat tricky to do without runs but it’s really the only way to get a good looking finish with pearls. You can also just wet sand with 1500 and buff instead of having to sand out a bunch of orange peel or other nonsense.

Thanks again fellas. Mick, I’m at best the court jester for the king of sparkles but big thanks anyway. Leftee you should definitely do a sparkly guitar. I’d be happy to give you a more detailed breakdown of my process, not that it’s correct but it works for me.

Here’s a picture in the sun, still not good, I only have some sort of iPhone. But it does include the now mandatory sparkle

Hah! I forgot about you and those bloody clogs - LOL!

Definitely a better pic.

A video with a 180° view from left to right would be cool so show the chameleon effect :^)
