Another votre for the Xotic SL Drive if a plexi-like sound is your thing. It's small and sounds good. Pair it with some greenbacks or scumbacks or a similar cabinet model and you're there.

Nope, sorry, only a Marshall amp sounds like a Marshall, at least in my experience.

Using a OD pedal in front of a Marshall tube amp is the ticket.

Not looking for exact Marshall/Plexi, just a mini drive that'll raunch it up a bit more than the Wampler.

Nice to see a pedal I recommended to Lefty ages ago getting recommended to someone else. Almost a "paid forward" kind of thing ;^)

Def fits your criteria littleuch, Marshall-in-a-box + micro-size.

It is one of the pedals of which I have experienced seller's remorse.

I don't know if it is small enough for your purposes but the Wampler Plexi Drive is my favorite Marshall in a box pedal.

Edited to add: if you need really small, then I agree with the Xotic SL Drive recommendation.

I did, eventually, sell my XL Drive. I still recommend it, though.

I have several MIAB pedals including an original Guv’nor. I was binging on this flavor last year.

The SL Drive is a strong contender in the small footprint department.

The Plexi-Tone (Mk 2 2012+ version) by Carl Martin is worthy of checking out. Guitarist Pete Thorn had some input to the voicing of this smaller version.

I asked a question like this last year and end up with a Marshall head and 2x12 cab. Very happy with it!

The only Marshall I've ever owned was a JCM 900 4502 combo back in the 90's. Gigged with it for quite a few years.

I agree there's nothing that can do Marshall like a Marshall, but I'm just looking for a higher gain stage "inspired by" that Marshall thing.

Larry, if your not opposed to clones, the Mooer Cruncher Distortion is allegedly the Crunch Box clone. (v1.0)

I've not played one but the reviews are good, it's micro-size and won't break the bank (especially if you find one used).

FWIW, I have a two Mooer OD/Distortion pedals a Rumble Drive (Zen Drive clone) and the Hustle Drive (OCD clone) and they sound great.
I paid $50AU for each used.

I think this Mike Hermans doing the video

I chased this for a bit.

Ended up with the little DSL1 head and cab.

Does the Marshall I want.

The best mini pedal I've found that does the Marshall brown sound extremely well is the X-Vive Golden Brownie. If you want med gain to high gain hot rodded Marshall tones, the Golden Brownie works great.

If you have a little more space on your board and don't necessarily need a mini pedal, the Crunch Box is great and the JHS AT pedal is even better!

IMHO

I did go with the Xotic SL Drive, should be here today or tomorrow. Thanks for all the recommendations.

I studied the SL Drive closely for a few months but for some reason never pulled the trigger. Hope it does the trick for you littleuch.

I forgot to add the Wampler Plexi Drive to my post above. I have the older non-Deluxe version and it's amazing how close to an old school Marshall tone that pedal delivers.

Xotic SL Drive on board and doing what I had hoped it would do. It's a little beast.
