Need something to help lower hum and all-around noise. Rig is typically standard strat through a handful of pedals including TS-9, Carl Martin Plexitone and Klon KTR (though last three not simultaneously). All this into a Rivera 5512 amp. Plexi-tone in particular is NOISY.

At this point considering either a Boss NS-2 or a MXR M135. Looking for opinions. Thanks.

Step 1: Search this forum for "noise" or similar.
It has been covered multi times before.

After you do that.......

Is the noise coming from the pedals, or somewhere else?
What kind of guitar are you using?
I am a big fan of and firm believer in noiseless pickups.

What are you using to power them?

What are ALL of your pedals?
How are they ordered?

If you have more than 3-4 pedals, consider getting a true bypass strip/switcher.
It may or may not help with the noise, but you may notice a difference in your tone, both effected and bypassed.

What kind of music are you doing, and in particular how is the Rivera amp set?
A lot of these high gain amps can be murder in terms of noise.

Once we know all of this, we may be able to give some better answers.
Until then, we don't have all of the facts.
All of these things can make a difference.

That said, I have two Boss NS2s.
I have tried out the ISP Decimator and the MXR Smart Gate, didn't like them for various reasons, and still think the Boss is best.

Thanks for the input and suggestions. And yes, I did search this forum for "noise gate" over the past year.

Last noise gate I used was the Decimator G-string, which was very good, because you run the guitar into it first, and then your effected signal, and it compares the 2 signals. Much more organic, and way less intrusive and obvious. I think others do that now, as well. I believe the Zuul is one everybody likes.
