Florida

Itchy finger on the outrage trigger
Aug 10th, 2019 06:35 AM   Edit   Profile

After moving to Florida nearly 6 years ago I have spent most of my time plugged in through various DI recording devices. On a mini snowbird trip for over a month up north I brought my Princeton Reverb II, pedal board and the lovely homebrewed Auroracaster. This all just in case I have a jam opportunity with the musically active brother in law.

We're in an attached Mother in Law apartment on acreage, our host and family is gone on vacation. Yesterday wifey went to a local street fair, so I fired my system up. The pedal board has a Polytune, Barber Tone Press, a Wampler Euphoria which I bought nearly 3 years ago and played for maybe 10 minutes, and a Carbon Copy. What ensued was musical mayhem. That Wampler is a delightful pedal and covers all my ground.

I miss playing out loud.

Nice!

I do miss playing with others. It's been years.

I've got enough gear, these days, that rediscovery is constant.

I hear ya....sorta. My ears have paid the price for playing loud throughout my youth.

I am like you in that I spend 99.9% of the time plugged into a digital device of some kind. Headphones are the only option I have when wifey is home, which is always.

She was gone for a week to see her family out of state a few months ago. I pulled the Twin and the AC15 out of the closet and went nuts. It sure was fun. I had to put the dogs out because my Malamute is a critic and has to complain about it.

I don't have a pedal board anymore. Sold all of my old pedals decades ago when I made the move to modelers. I do have a boutique Freakin Sick 30 Volt overdrive and an Arion SCH-1 chorus pedal so I hooked them up. I had a blast.

The AC15 with a Celestion Blue sounds SO good when it's turned up, pushing air, and breaking up. I have found that the Twin does not really understand what overdrive is unless I put something more than a guitar in front of it. All it offers is a massive, clean, sonic, white-out, condition when turned up. I don't have a big enough room to be able to enjoy that SPL.

I'm going to love it when my studio is finished and I can add a Leslie to that. Right now they are both in the living room because I don't have enough room in my back bedroom where the rest of my gear is to put either one of them.

I miss playing loud too!

+1

The cops in the neighborhood where I grew up all new me. Every time mom would go to the store I'd crank up my amp and the old guy a couple doors down would call them. They knew to come around to the back bedroom and tap on the window to get my attention.

It's hard for me to rediscover gear because my personality is if I don't use it, I move it.

If you can't play good, play loud

I've been obsessed with my semi-hollow bodied guitars lately. That, and the other guitarist in one band plays a Strat so I try to provide contrasting tones, and the amp in the practice space for the other band is too peaky for single coils, so my Strat hasn't seen the light of day lately.
One of these days I'm going to have to plug it into the Twin and rediscover some '60's Fender sparkle.

Yeeeehaaaa!

The past 2 weekends I've had a total blast after dusting off that old POD 2.0, using my numero uno favorite electric guitar, the 1983 Telecaster. Oh the joys of setting 1C (Vox AC30 Top Boost); 3C (Fender Deluxe); and 6A (combo of Fender Deluxe and Fender Bassman....with some delay thrown in). I ran it through that Fender Rumble 25 bass amp to solidify the solid state attack.

I quickly reminded myself how it was my POD 2.0 purchase that eventually led me to buy my favorite amp in the galaxy....the Vox AC15C1.

So true. I'd been obsessing over some fancy boutique Teles (Suhr, Nash, Kirn) and grappling with the notion of spending that much on a plank...
Then I got out my '88 G&L ASAT Signature that hadn't been out in months, strummed a few chords and realized -- it's unbeatable.
