A guy at Open Mic last night asked me if there was a pedal that could make his 6 string electric sound like a 12 string.

Other than the time honored tweaking of a Chorus pedal with some delay, I had no answer for him. AND... I'm pretty far removed from knowing what's available these days.

Anyone know of a single pedal that can do this conversion in sound?

I think that’s what a digitech mosaic does.
I have no experience with one but in general the reviews seem good.

Great!

How does the Mosaic work with a 6/string acoustic?

Do a search on the forum for mosaic.

It has been covered several times.

I think the Mosaic is the closest one to getting a 6 to sound like a 12, but if he's just looking for sparkle or something like that there are other options. The Neunaber Seraphim does a cool shimmer effect.

6, it does a fine job. I use it it in our Beatle band for Hide Your Love Away, sounds good and worth the investment just for the benefit of not having to lug/tune a 12. You can score a used one for -100 bucks if you look around.

another vote for digitech mosaic

Adds A shimmering. octave-y texture to my tele.
The individual notes sound crisp and clear.

Not so much with my Taylor 510CE acoustic.
The internal mic adds all kinds of weird overtones and harmonics, and if I switch all the way to the piezo pickup, it still has a hollow, ringing to it.

Woah, waitaminute..apparently you have to use their power supply. Running out of a regular 9V didn't. Using the supplied power did. I guess I should read the instructions.

How do these pedals account for the unison tuning of the B and E strings?

^ Looking at the link to Steve Dalman’s thread the answer is no.

BTW I can see how Pinetree gets a similar effect from a B9.

Juice - they don’t.

It won’t replace my Dan-O 12 if I absolutely need the real deal. But for tossing in a Byrds/Petty/Beatles/REM/garagerawk jangler tune on the fly, you can’t beat it.

I don't know if the pedal is shipped with instructions.
However, there seems to be a pretty good set of instructions on the Digitech web site.

The power adapter, from the instructions, appears to be a standard barrel positive 9 VDC adapter.
The specs/requirements are in the instructions.
The instructions also seem to imply that the unit is shipped with a supply.
If it is not, or you didn't get one, that is another subject.

If it does not work with a different adapter, that is also another subject.
