I was watching a concert with Jason and the Scorchers and Warner Hodges was playing an Esquire and it really made me sit up and take notice.

It seems like these Classic Vibe series are some of the best bang for the buck Tele's out there that are very easy on the pocketbook and still retain quality.

I already have a custom build pine Tele in butterscotch with Lollar pickups and Callaham hardware, so the blond finish seems to be the choice.

The Alnico II's that are in the blond are pretty nice, but I think I can do better.

Also, the modified Eldred wiring is probably the way to go. I like the idea of a straight into the amp with no volume and no tone control appealing.

Anyone play a Classic Vibe before ?

I had a CV Tele. Yes, it punched above its weight for sure. It would make a great Esquire platform. There’s a thread about this in the Tele forum right now.

The Squier CV Teles are pound-for-pound as good as a USA Telecaster, in my estimation. The early ones--especially--because they were equipped with Tonerider pickups.

If you're looking for some of the absolute best deployment of the Fender Telecaster in rock and roll, Warner Hodges is about as good as it gets. The guy rips, and he's a totally humble man.

Oh yes indeed, Mr. Hodges is indeed the buisness.

Saw him and Dan Baird two weeks ago, the 11th at Lafayette's in Memphis.

He makes a point to take the time to talk to folks and is pretty genuine.

By God, I'll be spinning that guitar around my back in no time at all !

I have a late friends Squier thinline from around 2010. It has toneriders, though while Tim was alive the bridge needed rewinding. They do sound good and much better than the usual fender fare.

I think I need to build a one pickup guitar.
Don’t know if I’d do an Esquire necessarily but maybe some sort of a cross between that and an LP Jr.

I’m just spit-ballin’ here....

I’ve thought about it too. That’s about as far as I’ve gone.

Found a blonde Classic Vibe 50's for $319, shipping included and no tax.

Got the compensated saddles on order as well as 2 CTS no-load 250K pots.

Trying to decide if I want to put a Lollar Special T or a DiMarzio Twang King in there.

Heck, reviews say the stock Alnico III's are pretty decent.

This is gonna be fun !

On its way.

So let me axe you this:

Do you have any guitars with a Twang King or special T already?

It might be fun to venture out. Variety is the spice of life.

Good point Archie.

I've got two Tele's with a Special T, so yeah, don't need another.

The Twang King I've got in my pickup parts box.

Florence Voodoo pickups look interesting.

Here's a one-eyed monster I built years ago. It's actually quite versatile; it has a tapped single coil that offers three different sounds.

Rumple-liciousness
