Well hopefully the change for the better continues and you find new ways of dealing with that transition. Doesn't sound like the worst possible challenge. Your docs have any opinion on this or is it one of those "sometimes it just is..." conclusions?

I know several people that have outlived their doctor's estimates, and even a few that steadily improved despite grim outlook on their health.

About half of them have the same attitude as you do: perplexed by having to live for years with the notion that THIS is the way it's going to be from now on--and then change for the better. It's GOOD to be perplexed in this manner!

Plug in a guitar and rock out loud and proud. It will be a good memory: "Hey Rob, do anything special for your birthday?"

"Yeah. So special the neighbors called the cops on me. I still GOT it!"

Happy birthday, Rob.

“On-call turns into a pumpkin way early, so things like movies etc are still dead out, even if there was one to see.”

They don’t have early movies?

Though it may at first seem overwhelming, gotta be better to have "too many choices" than to have such severe, involuntary, physical limitations on your options to choose. Glad t'hear you're doin' better!

HBD and best wishes for continued improvement!

Happy Birthday Rob.

Many of us here are at the age where we could drop dead tomorrow. My plan for whatever time I have left is to live every day like it's my birthday.

I hope you find something to do that you enjoy.

Thanks, it's not until next week, but I'm still a plan for things person (especially when things like transport aren't in my personal immediate control).

" Your docs have any opinion on this or is it one of those "sometimes it just is..." conclusions?"

I'm already an anomaly of a unicorn disorder in men, and should have been dead years ago. The most recent, they're just shrugging and letting me run said show because I am already a relative expert on it and definitely so in my peculiar case.

I've intimated my own thoughts on the subject with my doc, who doesn't need to understand my personal religious inclinations or practices in nuts and bolts level.

And there are no early movies reliably present here - the weekend ones are almost exclusively family matinee junk stuffed with screaming kids and focused on movies appealing to that demographic. I do love children, but I don't want to go to a playground with them screaming and ducking about either.

Mostly just weighing my options, when I'm not even sure what they are.

In any event, it’s very cool to celebrate a birthday in a better place/head space than the last one.

“And there are no early movies reliably present here - the weekend ones are almost exclusively family matinee junk stuffed with screaming kids and focused on movies appealing to that demographic.”

Very interesting. I’ve grown up in a world with multiple theaters which play every movie all day long. I never even vonsidered it’s not like that everywhere.

My daughter and I have gone to two movies on Sunday at 10:45 in the last few weeks, and found ourselves alone at both of them. Hence we now call the first movie on Sunday a “private screening”.

What about an Uber or something similar, to get to-from a later show? Does that exist by you? Or is the “local” theater not that local??

Uber is effectively worthless to me at this point, even if one showed up.

I'm still reliant on the chair outside of my immediate vicinity if I want to have assurance of things going aright, especially in a situation where I cannot control what's going on.

Good for short periods of time, but need known acceptable seating options available, and control over the rest. Recovering, not "better."

I ask because I have a wheelchair bound client (albeit a wealthy one) who relies mostly on Uber to get around, and she thinks not having to wait for Access A Ride is the greatest thing that ever happened.

Obviously not your situation, of course.

The chances of accessible Uber out here...yea, right.

I'll be well beyond the chair by the time that ever occurs!
