There have been around 70 "healing miracles" recognized by those in authority at the Lourdes Shrine in France, since 1858. The surrounding city attracts more tourists each year than a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum at the peak of the summer holidays.

People come from all over the world to bathe in the grotto's healing water, or drink it (hopefully upstream from the bathers).

Due to strict rules of what constitutes a sure - enough miracle, there hasn't been a new one advertised since 2013.
Other miraculous sites around the world (and Texas) are siphoning off the sick and infirm, leading to a drop in room rentals, souvenir sales and tours in Lourdes.

The last time the rules were relaxed was in 2006, and it's beginning to look as though another "watering down" of the maxims might be needed to keep the town afloat.

When I worked patrol I witnessed the stunning effect on an ordinary neighborhood when rumors of a miraculous happening occurred. Streets having to be blocked off as the faithful arrived by the hundreds, each newly arriving group ramping up the fervor ...self proclaimed prophets on soap boxes .... and this was in 1978, before cell phones and social media.

Have any of y'all witnessed group hypnosis/hysteria??

Example: one kid in school claims nausea, and suddenly they're dropping like flies without any medically verified reason?

The Lourdes Welcome Wagon has done a wonderful job for many many years.

My hunnie says whether it's fake or not doesn't matter; it's blind faith that does the trick. If that's true, save your money! Stay home, avoid the hassle of travel and avoid the crazy crowds.

If I were to get into the miracle business I'd probably go with pharmaceuticals or supplements. Bigger audience.

I’m not sure that the faith has to be blind, but I agree that it’s the faith through which amazing things are accomplished.

I worked with a guy who's wife had a terminal disease. He took her to Lourdes in an effort to have her affliction cured by the Blessed Virgin. It didn't work they way they expected. My co-workers wife passed. Subsequent to his visit to Lourdes, the hepatitis C he had carried since the 1970's had completely disappeared.
That's not the only miracle I personally know about. My family has one as well.
