Once my good friend Tommy left USACG, I was skeptical of the company without their maestro at the helm.
I suppose I was right. I ordered a neck for the Strat project and when the first one came, it had issues. The face dot holes were milled incorrectly so that you had chip out and teeth marks in a spiral-tooth fashion showing around the dot. The glue filled the void with an almost clear but slightly blackened color from the delrin dust during sanding that made it's way into the voids.
From any distance, it gave the dots a digital stairstep edge and fuzzy look. That simply would not do on a 278 dollar neck(shipped price).
Support claimed it should have never left the shop. I agreed. After another 3 week wait, the replacement arrives. The first dot at 3rd fret looked fine, all the rest, bad. Again. This time, the neck had two *more* issues. The skunk stripe didn't make it down into the channel all the way. It is standing proud of the maple. Not by much, but enough to absolutely feel. Maybe .010". The truss rod is also hung up in the neck or something, because I have to adjust the nut all the way down until it's recessed 1/8" or more before it engages, and shortly after, bottoms out. It takes almost that much to get the neck flat without strings.
An email to support has been sent.
Meanwhile, I did some digging. It seems the veterans of USACG have moved to a place called "Sound Guitar Works"
The headstock shapes and contours are all the same. So I believe I will be moving to them in the future for my needs, along with Warmoth for some other builds.
When Tommy was at the helm, they made the best parts I had come across. I found them recommended to me by Bill Callaham in the mid 2000's.
Hopefully SGW will continue that legacy.
Has anyone else had experience with USACG before or since Tommy left?

I got a look at this issue today.
The fingerboard's position dot markers' edges do look pixellated like Aaron described above.

A bit perplexing. Definitely a tool issue. Either the wrong end mill type, size or speed.
Maybe it's a digital guitar neck??? I didn't see a USB port.

A return has been initiated.
I'll throw the funds at SGW and report the score at a later date.
