Hey e'budy.
I found an almost perfect match for my resurfaced mim tele fretboard. It's minwax "classic oak".
will polyurethane work for this application?

I assume you're talking about Minwax Polyshades, which is a combination stain/poly finish?

I prefer to do the staining and clear coat as separate operations, but there's no reason why Polyshades shouldn't work. Lots of ultra-thin coats is preferable to trying to apply it thick. Avoid runs, drips and curtains at all costs, be especially careful around fret ends.

Is the fretboard maple or rosewood? You didn't say.
