I've never had an SG but I'm thinking of getting one into the collection. I do occasionally have use for trem and the Vibrola arm on the SG appeals to me. But looking closely (in pictures), it doesn't look real robust. Wonder if there are tuning issues more than an average Jazzmaster or Strat. That would be a deal-breaker if you need to tune up after every song.

The Vibrola is similar in operation to a Bigsby; it won’t dive-bomb, but it’s great for wobbles and dips.

A proper setup makes the difference between one that plays in tune and stays in tune, and one that’s a headache.

I have a vibrola on my 63 SG Custom. Stable as a rock. I can even break a low E string and it stays in tune...pretty well. Break any other string and there are practically no tuning issues at all.

No, you can't dive bomb with it but, you can do a full-step bend as long as you're bending flat. It won't do much going in the sharp direction. It's great for little vibrato-type stuff. It's easy to tune up, unlike a Floyd Rose and it stays there once you're finished. All-in-all a great design. Much more stable than a Bigsby. I've never played a guitar with a Bigsby that I considered stable in it's tuning.
