It is a Fender thing. They entered into the parts business a few years ago.

AFAIK Fender. I’ve bought a body and two necks. Nothing on the boxes indicated that someone else made them.

Correct. Fender. They will even state if they are USA or MIM, with pricing to match.

When I first saw this I thought that you were talking about the parts that go on the bodies: Pickguards, bridges, buttons, jack plates, etc.

Now it appears that we're talking about the actual bodies and necks.

Just for clarity, which is it?

bodies
wondering if they are made by someone else? i know it says Fender but i suspect they are cut by someone under their license - outsourced if you will. Seems like a pretty costly endeavor for fender to get into the parts game without a 3rd party partner

I saw a place advertising a '51 Tele neck that was MIM. It was stamped Made in Mexico and had the normal Fender MX18... number (it's a 2018). I'd bet that's an Ensenada neck.

They come painted the factory colors, too. I don't see how it would be costly for Fender. They're just pulling them from the line or running extras.

After all, Fender is the largest producer of Fender bodies/necks. (-;

my original thought was given the prices here in Canada, parts must be made by someone else and branded Fender. However, the necks i just looked at are Mexican. eg-$329CDN - that leaves plenty of margin to make it profitable. Makes sense now they would probably pull from existing lines.

having said all of this, they still look and feel pretty darn good

They are all Mexican factory made. I bought a neck and Strat body. Very good quality. The only problem is if you are looking for something specific. They literally give two color choices on the body, maybe three. The necks are either maple or rosewood with either a soft V-shape for maple or round C for the rosewood.

This build used just such a body. It's an AmStd body from 2012 in Mystic Red.

Thanks! It did turn out great. One note, though. This is a top-loader because there were no bridges available for this body. None... anywhere. And I wasn’t the only person to run into this. No biggie. I like the feel of a top-loader any ways. (-:

Don't get confused between "Fender" and "Licensed by Fender" -- two different animals.

Taylor will also sell replacement bodies and necks for their instruments but you either need to return the defective part or provide proof of destruction. The cost is reasonable and the part is always custom built in the factory on each individual request.
