I was recently shopping for a plectrum banjo to use in my mummer activities and bought a Fender Robert Schmidt Signature plectrum bsnjo as a closeout. Most mummers seem to prefer vintage plectrums or tenors; I had been getting by with a Rogue 6 string and vintage banjos are a bit pricey in Philly.
The Robert Schmidt is nicely made but anchor-heavy--12รท lbs, easily twice the weight of the Rogue. I don't see doing a three mile parade with it, even with my old neoprene bass strap, Where the lightweight Rogue gets loud fast it doesn't like heavy playing. The Fenderjust gets louder the harder it is strummed, much like some old Guild dreadnoughts I've played. I'll be testing it out at a rehearsal soon.

Make that 13.5 lbs. That is a whole lb heavier than the Deering Jens Krueger 5 string.

I built up to playing the beast in full costume (15-20lbs) doing drills, marching and playing. Fortunately I missed the two full costume parades in 90 degree temperatures on the Fourth of July. A costume that keeps you from freezing on Jan 1st will poach you like an egg on the Fourth.

It hangs in there pretty well with the interwar and many of the prewar plectrum banjos for volume and clarity

Give Gold Tone (Titusville, FL) a call and see if they have any lightweight pots that will fit your banjo. You may save a pound or three.
