There I was one night...

After over 40 years of messing with the guitar, I'm finally learning Stairway to Heaven. I promise not to play it at GC or some other music store. I'm following Marty Schwartz's tutorial. Fun stuff.

Great band, great song, great solo. Good luck ;-)

I can still play good portion of that song, after learning it while I was in high school.

You weren't considered a legit guitarist back in the 70's if you couldn't play this song.

Remember to correctly count the section where the arrangement transitions from acoustic/quiet to electric/loud, immediately preceding the solo.

Most players mess that part up.

Here's a great analysis.

Cheers, windmill! It kicked my butt many years ago, and I got through it only after I forced myself to tap my foot on the downbeat through that section.

Prior to that, the drummer. bass player, and I would "wander in the desert" for a measure or two going into the solo.

I had to learn it once because I wrote a parody for a friend's roast ("Help Me Up The Stairway").
