Biology... Teacher showed us human specimens from the lab at McGill University.

Saw human lungs - a smoker’s lungs with a huge section carved out where doctors removed a zone of cancer.

They were black and looked like pavement from the smoke.

For sure, I was never going to smoke.

She also showed us a human brain wrapped in some sort of cheese cloth. At the end of class, she let those who wanted to do so, hold the brain. I have held a human brain in my two outstretched hands. This moved me forever. I held everything about a man’s life in my hands.

Recently, I have gone through several courses about the brain, starting with Neurology with Dr. Jeanette Norden. Amazing course available through Great Courses - The Teaching Company.

I had studied these topics in University, but what I learned in these recent courses is amazing.

For example: Autism - not vaccines, not drugs... but alcohol.

Take notice... when I tell people about this, their first reaction is total denial.

Like the myth about we use only 10% of our brain. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If I could throw this in...although my undergrad degree was in the sciences, I did take three years of music theory and composition in college. Used up most of my non-major electives in music. I'm really glad I did.

Sociology. As an engineering major, most of my classes were with guys. The huge sociology class had oodles of coeds. :)

I think I'll go with the Calc guys. I did ok, but my understanding was lacking.

But let me add - there was 1 class in college that still bugs me to this day: Latin American History.

If memory serves, I had at least a solid B thru the year - ended up with a C as a final grade. I must have really bombed the final. Hurt my GPA, too.

"Alge(g)bra. The teacher was a witch so I didn't even try."

Have you thought about retaking Engilsh?

Ditto.. the teacher was an SOB so I didn't even try.

I think back and would take all the easy classes so as to raise my grade point average. That's what many of the smarter kids did.

But upon further consideration I would have
attended a different school that was a bit less liberal and more focused on education.

Timmer: "Behind the wheel, Drivers Ed."

I wish everyone else around here would go back and take Drivers Ed. Or maybe just take it. They can't drive. We have the highest car insurance rates in the nation.

Or course, that last part may have to do with the high percentage of drunk drivers we have.

Other than that, I would not go back to take any HS classes. Maybe band. I would practice more.

"Have you thought about retaking Engilsh?"

No! I need to take a class on typing on a stupid iPhone. Unfortunately, it wasn't taught in 1978.

I consider myself a better-than-average typist. Or used to be, before I got an iPhone. I'm not that fast typing on my iPhone. I don't really think those letters are actually under where they are shown on the screen.

HeavyDuty beat me to it: Algebra II in 11th grade, so I could sit next to Lisa again.

Of course, that means my grade wouldn't likely improve this time around.

I'd go to Calculus I again. I got a 'C' in it, but at times I thought it was beautiful, and would like to revisit and pick up more. By Calculus II I was toast, because I no longer even knew what the point of it was. But man, in Calculus I we were able to efficiently calculate the dimensions of the ideal can of tuna, and I was getting giddy!

Funny, but as a geology major I was required to take Calc I, II, and III.

I did ok in Calc I.
I aced the 1st test in Calc II - somehow - I really don't know how...but realized, "yeah, this isn't going to work for me" and I withdrew and changed my major.
I still like rocks, though. :^)

I had dual majors in Econ and Math.

If I was to do it over again I would have taken Aeronautical Engineering instead. That would have allowed me to take the next step and go for a Masters in that subject.

And a Masters in AE is a basic requirement for USAF Test Pilots. For a chance to be a Test Pilot at Edwards AFB, the academic challenge would have been worth it.

Mikeyguitar, in my Geology program we only had to go through to Calculus II. Of course, I had Geophysics fantasies, which would've gone through to Differential Equations, but Calc II made it plain and clear to me that I don't wanna deal with that stuff.
