As the phrase goes:

When people tell me Squiers are not decent guitars, I send them this link.

It is *the* definitive tone for modern surf.

Mikko proves it's the player--not the gear.

I love Jack Pearson's playing. He seems to be a very humble person, as well
If I am not mistaken, that strat is all original.

It looks like a late-90s Squier.

I just read that Arlen Roth has a new album out called, "Arlen's All-Stars."
Jack Pearson plays on three tracks, using a Squire Affinity Strat.

John Mayall has played heavily-modded Squiers for many years. He does the carving, etc., himself.

Here's the gold one.

Here's another. He has a bunch of small-bodied beasts like this one.

I happen to own a Squier Affinity Strat myself. I want to graduate to a real Fender Stratocaster, but can not really complain about the Squier.

I had a Squire Affinity, and sold it. Now there's one on Craigslist for $40.00. It has a couple of dings, but I may check it out. As long as there's nothing seriously wrong, why not?

It's not just a Squier, it's a Squier Bullet which is the *cheaper version* of the Squier.

"It even has the 'undesirable' ceramic magnet pickups. The polepieces are weird heights but they sound great. I wire the second tone control to the bridge pickup, but most of the time it is full up. It’s the first guitar I’ve had where I can go from Wes to Roy Buchanan."

That is spectacular! Guthrie Trapp plays a custom-made Tele and has Fender MIM ceramic pickups in it, and it KILLS. Thanks for posting this.

So a couple of days after my goofy post, I have to admit I hadn't heard of Pearson. He's really good and that story about the Squier is an example of the right way to buy a guitar.

As a surf goober I already knew about Mikko and the Squier. Sounds glorious.

In both cases it's clearly the hands doing the work, but the guitars certainly don't get in the way.

Around 1987 I bought a black Squire Strat MIJ. It was a gift for my daughter.
She didn't take to it so I sold it. Have regretted that sale. I was an excellent guitar.

Very cool- I am a ABB fan, but had never heard of him, or heard him play. My son had a blue Squier like that growing up. I think he traded it with a friend for something- always thought it played really nice.
