The older the violin

the sweeter the music.

This guitar popped up on CL down up in Cripple Creek so I grabbed it. I had one of these DY-57s several years ago, but like a dummy I sold it.

This one is a 1981 with zero fret wear. The top has some pick marks and needed a new pick guard, and the back has a couple of scuffs. So I cleaned it up and had a new Holter pick guard made. New Elixirs and a new set of boxwood bridge pins and she's ready to go. Oh, and I got it set up while in Omaha last week; I don't think it had ever been properly set up.

I'm very pleased with how it sounds. Typical mahogany woodiness. This was Yairi's answer to the D-18, and I think they sound very similar.

Big fat neck too, under a 1 11/16" nut. I like it.

Nice CL find. Every acoustic player should have a D-18 or equivalent. Enjoy that thing.

Thanks, guys.

The top is really nice. Tight grain, lots of silking, and it's gone a nice amber.

Unfortunately, at some point some ham-fisted neanderthal picked it up and strummed it hard using who-knows-what for a pick. A screwdriver, maybe? Anyway, it left 15 or so gouges above the sound hole. Probably took the idiot 10 seconds to damage what had been a gorgeous guitar top.

Odd thing, my DY-74 suffered the same fate.
