The current band I'm in opened for a band from LA tonight. Our set went really well, even though our drummer seemed "out to lunch" before we started (had the wrong set list, asked who starts certain songs, etc.) We didn't get a real sound check either.
This band plays original music so booking shows isn't as easy as it is the cover band scene.
I've been playing music for ages and playing a good set reminds you of why you do this and why you "have" to do it.

It's a lot like playing golf: your game might not be super good on all the holes, but make two or three really nice shots in one game and it keeps you coming back for more.

The band we opened for was from LA and the members were ultra snobby (oh we can't talk to you local rabble).

That’s their loss. They could have had new awesome friends.

The band played the best it ever has at a show today.
Practice during week the was excellent and we played just as well at the show.
We had one muck up but it didnt affect anything, in the past it might have but not today.
Still smiling about it now :)

^I'm fairly convinced there is some therapeutic release of endorphins or such that only playing/performing can deliver. My thing last Friday night blocked all my physical and mental woes for a time in a startling way. At the end of the night I walked out carrying my amp in one hand and guitar+pedalboard in the other like I was 24. I had totally forgotten that magical element when things go well. Best drug there is.

Go find some open mic action and sit in with other players. Once they find out what you can do, they'll drag you up with 'em and even ask you to contribute to their projects.
It IS like a drug: very addictive.

It’s the best. We’ve had a bunch of rain in the last three days. I got together with my guitar payer on Wed. We didn’t go over any of the sets but worked on some new stuff and mostly just jammed.
Nothing is as fun as getting out in front of a crowed.
