My favorite for this is my Carl Martin DeLayla XL. I use a Supa-Puss for almost everything, but for slapback and other “light” delays the CM has the edge.

Setzer uses the Re-301 Chorus Echo.
That was my unit back in the stone age, they're just too blisteringly expensive now.
The preamp is a hair cleaner than the standard 201, but not as hi-fi as the 501.
Cheap seat version is the 150, which has something more like the 301 than the 201 (likely I'm guessing due to parts availability/cost at the time).
Put a CE-2W on CE-1 mode in front of it, and you're there. Yea, you don't get the verb of the 301, but it wasn't anything write home about.
But for generic slapback, you have your bases covered I'd expect.

FWIW... I had 3 delays. A Carbon Copy, Flashback and a Dunlop Echoplex.
Kept the CC, others were sold on fleabay.

I haven't tried a ton of delays, mostly studio processing since I record more than anything. But I've had a Memory Man way back in the day, a Keeley modded AD9 and I just couldn't embrace the dirt. I think I'm most satisfied with my only delay pedal, a Carbon Copy. I did tweak the internal modulation pot a bit to tamp it down.

I don't demand much from a delay pedal. Just a Chet Atkins-style single repeat, fairly soft, fairly dark, at about 100 msec. My old Maxon AD-80 does all that just fine.

The Catalinbread Belle Epoch is such a good echoplex clone Eric Johnson replaced his actual plex with two Belles on his pedal board.
It sounds great but be warned it warms the tone up like a plex so it's not a clean digital sound.
I think the sun records tape machine setup they used created a 117 ms delay for their slapback fwiw.

I find delay and reverb pedals to be really temperamental in front of the amp. Hairline response and what sounds good clean goes turbo when it's time to dig in. I so much preferred these pedals going through an effects loop when I had an amp equipped with one.

I was lucky when I nabbed the Wampler. It was a SDotD for $99.

The Boss DM2W (Wazacraft version) also does a fine job of slapback.

My old 80s Boss DD-2 does the trick rather well and I also have the Wampler The Doctor. Both are great in different ways. Both are on my board.

Been using a Carbon Copy for a while. In the past I’ve used a a couple of underrated pedals - Ibanez DL5 Soundtank and a Rocktron Short Timer. Also like the Dano Reel Echo and the Echoplex pedal.
