Lefty, that would get you close to the Marshall sound. But, only close! 😉

“Leftee-I think you and Bill are in cahoots with each other on this enabler deal haha.”

I would have to agree! Count the people who are in my Marshall thread. These two guys were all over it. I got one and I love it.

Enjoy your amp!

I’ve been eyeing used Dr. Z amps, lately. Mostly the models with a EF86.

I kind of understood that this was going to cost some major cash (going in) but, the pay off would be Great Tones!
I concur with Bill (and he is a big fan) because these tones rock and also push some air!

This is hands down the Second Best Amp Buy I've made in 25 years!

"Enjoy your amp!"
Thanks Ryder!

I read your thread and I'm glad you are happy with your Marshall!
They're such Kick Butt Amps!!!

I don't want a Dr Z because it's trying to emulate a Marshall. I want one because it sounds like a Dr Z.

Ken, there are some in a certain forum complaining about a "pop" and/or volume drop when engaging the effects loop button on the back of the amp. Just wondering if you have tried this?
Now, why you would do that in a live setting....while playing...heck, don't ask me!? Seems like a non-factor to me.

I don’t know why that would be annoying. That’s something you set and forget.

Bill-The only effect I've tried (DOD Rubberneck) has not been sent thru the loop. Reverendrob mentioned doing it this way in his 'Stupid Sale of the Holiday' thread.

Soon I will try some different delays/reverb and a chorus in the effects loop. I would think that loop switch should be engaged while in standby mode. That's the way I'll use it and hope there is no volume loss.

Once I've sussed out what external speaker cab and effects I'll use this shouldl be an easy set up!

The one little issue I have with this amp is the placement of the rear panel functions. Seems kind of wacky to me but, OK.

How do you like the Rubberneck? I didn't know you had one. I just purchased one off Reverb, should be here tomorrow. For use at church believe it or not. The demos are amazing.

I'm hoping I can crack the code on this at some point lol!

It really is a nice sounding unit with some whacked out effects.

You've probably seen this from Pete Thorn but, here it is if you haven't.

Thanks, Ken, that was one of the videos that made me decide I HAD to have one! Pete does some great demos.

"This is a Marshall thread."

Ok, so I played through the studio JCM800 again yesterday, played it a lot. Cranked it all the way up because nobody else was home. The cab is the 2x12 with brand new Greenbacks that aren't broken in yet.
So far, I like it best with the gain at about noon. I get enough sustain there, and chords still sound great. Sort of AC/DC type gain if I turn down the guitar volume a little, turn it back up for solos. Still bright and it would definitely "stand out in a crowd", but I like it a lot more than I did at first. ;)
