FDP Forum / Guitar Mods, Repairs, and Projects / SQOTD: Warmoth necks, do they have a serial number on them?

Stupid question of the day, like I said.
If so, where is it located? (It's gotta be at the heel.)
A VERY used one has popped up here for a good price.
The seller doesn't know too much about the specs.
If it has a serial number, maybe I can contact Warmoth and they can tell me the details.
Thanks in advance.

I don't recall if mine had a serial # but I wasn't looking for one, either.

Yes, there is an ID number at the very bottom of the back side of the neck's base, handwritten in ink. (On the left side there is what seems to be the nut width.) I have a sales receipt, and on it are all the features that I requested (custom made). I have another neck, but no sales receipt (lost). If you look at the pre-made necks for sale on the Warmoth web site, the ID number/reference number is provide there for each neck.
These are four-digit numbers (maybe they're up to five by now?). One neck has "SS" as a prefix, and this is neck has stainless steel frets.

No, they don't put an ID on it.
At least not the ones I've ordered.

Well, Peegoo, you are correct again! I just assumed that the four-digit number on the bottom was the serial number; I should have known better, since one of those number had the "SS" prefix. The number represents the fret type (size/height, width).
The number along the left side could well be the neck's weight. I just tried to weigh mine, but found that my digital scale is kaput.
Photos follow x 3, incl. a portion of the receipt for neck #2. The SN is there, and it is not inscribed on the neck. So, without a sales receipt, I don't think there is a way to learn the details from Warmoth. Of course, someone with a lot of knowledge could determine specific construction aspects.

PS - No, I did not take these off to get these photos. I bought them about 10 years ago, had to dig them out of the back of the closet. There are two or three "swimming pool" Strat bodies back there, too, waiting and hoping I get to them before I die....

Warmoth used to put a paper label on their necks with a production number on it, but I think that was strictly for their in-house production and inventory control. They were not the type of label that was intended to stay on the neck as a permanent form of ID.
There's no way to date (month/year) a Warmoth neck. The stamp of The Turtle With No Name on the neck heel is one way to narrow things down because they have modified that cartoon several times over the years. Also, certain features such as compound radius, side-adjust truss rod, etc., that have been introduced over the years can help point at a date range.
I've been using Warmoth stuff since the early 1980s and they consistently produce fantastic necks and bodies. Their quality is second to none--including finishes.
We have a member here that used to work there...perhaps they'll chime in.

Yeah, as mentioned, if the OP doesn't have access to the sales slip, then the neck 'brand' is the only identifying mark.

As I mentioned above, the turtle logo has changed a few times (1980-2010, 2010-2016, and 2016-present).
Click below and compare the logo on your Warmoth neck to the three cartoons to narrow down the production window.

Peegoo: Thanks for the pics.
Not that anyone cares, but mine appears to be the first version.
The guitar appears to be the same, not a defined Strat image as in the later pics.
However, there are no shadows on the footprints.
There are no musical notes near the head.
No surprise really, as there were probably slight changes made during the different periods.
Truss rod adjust at the heel.
There is a number 711 stamped at the heel below the truss rod adjust screw.
Penciled in next to the turtle is a number that appears to be 1634.
Fingerboard is maple, radius is approximately 7.25 inches.
Backshape is pretty hefty, appears to be more "fat" and rounded than "Boat" and V.
Thickness at fret 1 is 0.945", fret 12 is 0.945".
Thanks again.

That 1634 is probably 1.634 (translates to 1.634", which is the nut width).
Sounds like one of their "True Vintage" necks with a boat carve, pre-2010.
