Has anyone had experience with swapping out the stock speaker in the Fender Deluxe Reverb (Silverface). Im interested in what tone changes you experienced and whether good or bad. There are lots of spkr brand suggestions in the 12 in speaker section of the fender deluxe reverb modifications site

There is a better place to post this in this forum. I'm a big fan of the Celestion Vintage 30 but tone is a matter of personal tastes. There is absolutely no other way to judge other than side by side comparisons and such a journey is expensive. The FDR is an awesome amp with the factory speaker and nobody will argue that point. As a professional tech of many years, my professional advice is to simply enjoy the really great amp you have and only if the opportunity presents itself to test drive other speakers at no cost to you -- try it.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to test drive a bunch of different speakers in a Deluxe, although it was a DRRI, not a Silverface.

The big winners for clean tone were the Celestion Blue and the Jensen Alnico P12Q. YMMV.

But yeah, this really belongs is Amp Mods, Repairs and Projects.
