In 1975 I purchased my Stratocaster from a little place on 48th Street called 'We Buy'. Price including original HS case $275 w/Tax. I did my minor modifications over the years. In 1982 I swapped out the bridge pickup with a Hotrail and added a 3 position mini-toggle. Anyway, the serial number is 269206. Until about 6 years ago I would tell people I owned a 1970 Stratocaster. However, I noticed that page 138 of The Stratocaster Chronicles shows a private collector's Stratocaster with a serial number 274200. It states that, "the serial number...is in keeping with a date of 1969". It further adds that, "serial numbers aren't definitive". But, can I accept that if a 274 presumably dates to 1969 that a 269 can not be a 1970 as I once believed? No, I do not want to remove the neck and check for date stamps. It's only mildly important. It is more curiosity that drives my interest. The guitar sounds absolutely incredible and plays like butter. Which is all I care about really. But, if anyone has an answer it would be greatly appreciated notwithstanding. 1970? 1969?

Based on on-line resources serial numbers 250000 to 280000 are 1969 production.
