I had an acoustic guitar come in for a setup and all three case latches squealed like little pigs when they were flipped open and closed.
If you've never lubed your case hardware, you should try it--and you'll be amazed at how much better it works. I've never seen a guitar tech talk about this simple maintenance.
Use a light machine oil such as 3-in-1, Singer sewing machine oil, or Hoppe's gun oil. Be very surgical with the application and use just enough to wet the metal surfaces where metal moves against metal.
A drop of oil is way too much. Do not use an aerosol because the excess it will creep under the vinyl covering and cause the glue to separate.
The leaf spring inside the latch is the part that wears the fastest without lube. It's also the noisiest part.
Exercise the latch/hinge after lubing it, and wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel.
The next time it needs lube will be 20+ years from now :o)

A drop is too much indeed. Great advice!
I put a drop in each hing of the basement door 15 years ago and it still slides around like an ole wet banana backyard toy.

P.S. my dad's first bout with the ultra rare transglobal amnesia came from hitting his head trying to use that dang thing. lol.
Anyway back to topic. I hate squeaky cases and latches that are ornery and don't want to work. Often that's the last straw on a bad day of sucking at guitar. Then they all go in the river.

Time to start reciting home run stats and batting averages!
Step one: tell hot lady about new wet banana toy you have that you want her to try
Step two: recover from facial slap
Step three: sit at end of said backyard death trap/toy
Step four: receive beautiful woman as she fails to put on the brakes and runs smack dab into you.

Looks like a knock-off of the Slip 'n' Slide.
Comedian Dane Cook had a riff on that (my paraphrasing): "Remember the Slip 'n' Slide? Sometimes dad would forget to check the yard for rocks. They should've called it Slip 'n' Bleed From the Aaaanus."
Sick!!!

“Mom on the Wet Banana“ can you even say that here?
When I’m applying small amounts of oil I use a sewing machine needle, it has small hole for the thread and a slight channel for the thread but the point is so sharp it’s easy to control minute amounts of lube.

THAT is a great tip! I'm going to make a little tool (wooden handle) with a needle in the end.
GREAT idea, hushnel.

It is a great tip, in a hardware kind of way “o)
I got the idea from an old WWII gun oil tin, it has an applicator that is just a thin rod with a flattened tip attached to the screw-on top. Plus I’ve been servicing a lot of old sewing machines the last couple of years.

Geno, install it in a cork that fits a bottle. Protect the tip and keep it lubricated all at the same time.

Sewing machine needle is a cool idea.
Here's another: Watch repair people use watch oilers to dispense the incredibly tiny amounts of oil needed to lubricate mechanical watches. Size of the drop that will cling to the tip is determined by the size and shape of the tip, so they come in various sizes.

Dear God. This is great. I need some of those for no good reason.
Now back to hyper sexual backyard toy names.
