Fender just released this with a 12” speaker. Faithful to the look for sure, and I’m thankful they left off the rubber shrouded switches. There are a lot of amp choices at $1999, so will be interesting to see how this does. The one thing it has successfully done is make me miss the real 1962 Princeton I had several years ago. It was in great shape, got it for about $800. They seem to go for way more than that now.

Jumping aboard the Big Goofy Hat bandwagon, are they? :o)

Fender has done 12" Princeton models in the past. Some sound good, some not so much. A pal has one in British Racing Green with a wheat grill that looks fantastic and sounds even better (link below). The ones that have the 12" Celestion 'greenback' sound really good to my ear.

I tried several 12s in my 1x10 PRRI (made a new baffle for it), but none sounded as good as the Weber 10" speaker, so back in it went.

I read that this is based on a modified one he found on Craigslist. I never had a 12 in any of my Princetons. That green PRRI is cool.

I had to google Chris Stapleton to see who he was. Anyhow , seems they are making a ton of 12” versions these days . Personally I think the 10” speaker is what gives the Princeton it’s mojo.

I played one and it sounded cool but for $2k and a goofy hat reference you can explore a lot of other options.

"but for $2k and a goofy hat reference you can explore a lot of other options."

I paid $900 for my '61 Princeton in 2007 and they are going for around the same price as the Stapleton Signature model now.

Despite being a great songwriter and vocalist, the coolest thing about Stapleton is that he plays a Jazzmaster.
