Ask me how I know!?Jan 21st, 2019 05:38 PM Edit Profile
This band I've been in has/had two singers, a really good male singer who has never been in a band before, and a female singer that had to use an Auto Tune machine to stay on key. At the time I joined the band, I guess I didn't listen to her closely enough, because either she got worse and worse, or I started noticing it, more and more.
The male singer finally had enough, and told us he was leaving the band after last Saturday night's gig. The drummer said he was leaving if the singer left, so....no point in me staying in the band, either!
It's always something!
Now that I'm retired, I want to play as much music as I can, so I'm kinda disappointed that the first band is breaking up, but then again, I won't have to listen to "her" any more! ;)
I'm fortunate enough to have joined another band a few months ago, with a good guitar player that I can get along with. We take turns playing the lead parts, and so far it's working out very well. Lots of potential, anyway!

Bands come and go, usually for good reasons.
You'll settle in with people you can get along with. Stick with it...you're a fine player.

I had band break up over the most ridiculous of all reasons. The bass player announces he has to quit because his wife wants him to spend more time with her on the weekends.
So this guy actually quit the band to spend time with his family. Geez. I don't understand people's priorities.

Now THAT is funny!
Musicians are so fickle and unreliable; you can't get many of them them to commit to being in a band :o)

Why not just re-form without the bad singer?

Our drummer, (and my friend for about 40 years) has just left the band to spend more time with his wife.
It wasn't his choice :-(
Or hers :-(

"Why not just re-form without the bad singer?"
The bad singer is the bass player's girlfriend, so those two are inseparable. The bass player also apparently owns the drum set the drummer was using; he doesn't have his own drum set. Still considering doing something with the good singer and a different bass and drummer. But, it's a long shot because of the driving distance between us, also. It's always something!!!

Hi Pegoo,
Yeah, he got sacked by email. He wasn't the greatest drummer in the world, but it sucks.
He's still pretty upset.

So when you're older, more mature, you overlook all the pettiness and bs, right? NOT! The band I joined 6 months ago is about to fire the drummer, partly because he sucks, but mostly because of some nonsense that his wife was saying about the bandleader/bassist. Each one bitches to me about the other, but don't seem to talk to each other. Real mature behavior!

There was too much of that going on in this last band, also! "Why can't we all just get along!?" Lol

what do you mean the bass is too loud?Jan 31st, 2019 08:09 PM Edit Profile
My friend J was in a band organized by a drummer, who ended up being a real tool personally, and started stepping on my buddy's feet getting gigs, to the point where he cost them a gig by trying to renegotiate the agreed price.
So J quit, along with the rest of the band. They found another drummer, and reformed with a new name, and brought back his moderately successful following.
A couple of months later, the guitar player started to get a 'star' complex. So again, good buddy and hand-picked band members quit the group, reforming again, with a new name.
It seems J did not like confrontations, so went passive aggressive instead.
I wonder what the Beatles would have called themselves if they broke up the band, and re-formed with Ringo instead of Pete...

Well, as it turns out, this is sort of happening. Long story, but when I started with this band, they had 2 drummers that took turns playing certain songs. One drummer left (partly because of the female singer) when he got an offer to play with another band.
That band didn't work out, so now we're going to try it with this drummer, the great male singer, myself, and a bass player that I know is very good because I'm in a band with him. Our first practice will be next Saturday, looking forward to being in two bands) now that I'm retired and seem to have plenty of time!

A singer that has to use Auto Tune is by definition not a singer.

"Plenty of time and Marshalls." Yes, I think 2 will suffice. ;)
"A singer that has to use Auto Tune is by definition not a singer."
We all thought the same thing, I kinda wish I hadn't spent so much time with that band, but then again, it resulted in meeting some new musicians and it may result in a better band, in the long run.

I thought that the whole point of being in a band is to get away from the wife?

"a band organized by a drummer"
In my experience, that phrase is a red flag.
