Have any of you seen a contract which penalizes bands for missing or coming late to a sound check? And if you have what is the penalty?

"what is the penalty?"

I guess the penalty is to expect a big increase of the "suck" fader.

Personally, I've never seen a contract that stated such, but most of the time I'm providing the sound system anyway. To me the penalty would be, you won't get a sound check, and you get what you get.

It could be a festival situation where, in the past, bands have arrived late and the organizer is just covering himself.

Personally, when I provide the PA for a multi-band show and a band uses up all of their sound check time to set up...oh well...it's a "dive" (mix on the fly).

Sometimes a band will arrive late, set up late or take forever to set up, thus start late, and then try to "force" their 40 minute set past their preset time thus cutting in to the next band's time slot.

As directed by one event coordinator I muted the stage mics and started up the break tunes (fairly loud) when a band's set was scheduled to end.

They got the picture...but were not pleased. It was rather contentious...

Being professional includes the following:

-showing up on time
-being ready and able to perform
-being respectful to organizers and other bands
-sticking to the schedule

Any band that cannot do this stuff needs to stay in the garage.

Agreed! I just never needed a contract to get me to be there on time, etc. ;)

Venue owners and organizers are simply protecting themselves by spelling things out. It's business.

As much as us players who have gigged complain about unscrupulous club owners and managers, I am sure there is an equal number of janky bands that don't take the job serious and behave like brats.

They're the wurst!

Weeners!
