I do not need another guitar, but those pesky leftovers are calling out to me. Warmoth Strat neck, complete sets of Tele, Strat and Kent Armstrong P90 Stealth pickups.

I'm thinking something slightly off the rails like a Strat with dual P90s, or an offset with P90s and Strat neck.

What's heading to your bench this year?

I’m building a Tele body out of Sharpies and Elmer’s.

I’m teaching Leftee how to reattach fingers with nothing but Elmer’s and sharpies. I’ll probably sparkle something also.

You can sparkle my fingers, too.

But seriously...

I’ve got Reverend Mikey’s Tele to finish. I have another Tele to build. I also have 2 set neck kits to build. None of the ones behind Mike’s require paint. I’m staining them. Mike’s is already painted.

I have a few ideas, but I'm afraid none of it will happen this year.

We are so close to being 100% debt free that all my focus (and finance) is directed there.

I'd like to build a nice Hardtail Strat, just so I can tell myself I have one.

I have had the thought of a Carve Top Hollow Body Telecaster with TV Jones Filtrons roaming around my head for quite a while.

I'd also like to build a companion regular six string guitar to go with my Warmoth Black Korina G5 bass

Hi Everyone! All my fingers are still attached, and I'm pretty much sparkle free. Pretty much...

I'm just finishing an Eric Johnson-ish strat. Home build left handed flame maple neck, ash body w/soundhole and all modern parts... knife edge bridge, locking tuners, the new six position switch. White on white, I'm digging it. For what it's worth carving a sound hole in a strat body is no fun.

Next up... I've got all the parts for a relic, shaped top and back tele. gonna put an unfinished rosewood neck on that one.

Always good to hear what you guys are building.

Searching for the right construction approach for a series of electric mandolins, mandollas, and octave mandolins. I've got 19 neck blanks w/ trussrods. I'm gonna sell out and start putting things on Reverb despite my opinion of buying an instrument online.

I was looking at some of the body/kit offerings at GFS. Hmmm.

I'm also intrigued by the idea of doing a Warmoth Jazzcaster, maybe routed for P90/Strat/Tele. I presume a pickguard would cover any gaps of a 21 fret Strat neck mount?

My wife gave me a new Warmoth neck for Christmas, so I've been working on a new build- a semi hollow using that neck, and a fender No-Caster neck pickup, a Lollar Chicago Steel, and a Railhammer humbucker. I hope to have it finished over the next week.

"I’m building a Tele body out of Sharpies and Elmer’s."

LOLL!!! (Laugh Out Loud Leftee - I'm going to make that a thing now :^)

I have two carry-overs from 2018 (as the year's last 3 months didn't go the way I scripted it :^)

One is a tele-ish build which is nearly ready for assembly, and a set neck PRS-style which I've begun some prep-work on.

Like littleuch (and probably many others) I don't *need* either of them, but where's the fun in that???

"So whatcha got planned for 2019?"

Um, what I started in 2017. A USACG strat build which for various reasons has been delayed. Neck is done, all the parts are bought, body is needing half an hour of sanding back and a couple of final colour coats. Sometimes life happens and it's been happening to me over the last few months. This is good therapy though and I might be working on this again towards the end of this week.

So here's a question. Riffing off of the idea of using an existing Warmoth Strat neck, some hardware and a couple of Kent Armstrong Stealth P90's, I went to Warmoth and did a mock up of an idea. I'd really like to use the Tele model, Mahogany body with Padouk top, 2 P90 routes and a tradition vintage trem. Pic below, but it sure seems ergonomically awkward, doesn't it? Would a shorter trem arm clear it up a bit? I'd really like to wobble the strings with the dual P90's. Also, how do you think Mahogany and Padouk would take a clear coat of Tru Oil?

Idea

I did a Tele with 2 humbuckers and a modern 2-point trem and ergonomically it seems fine to me. I’ve never worked with padouk but I did a mahogany Strat with tru-oil about 10 years ago and it turned out great. I did the slurry grain fill method, I don’t care for open pored finishes. It’s held up pretty well, it’s pretty scratched up put still looks nice.

So tell me about "slurry grain fill". If I could I'd do a build that required no finish but my only options there would be roasted alder or ash and I rather not go that direction. Warmoth offers no other core body woods that don't require a finish.

Edit: Ok, I think I got it. Slather/sand/repeat? Basically?

"Slather/sand/repeat? Basically?"

You got it.

re: vibrato arm, I've shortened all my wiggle sticks for my strats.

I cut them back so the arm end of the plastic tip is just a little bit out from the "elbow" of the arm. (make sense?)

That length just felt best for me. There was no science involved :^)

Thanks Mick. I have one shorty trem arm but bought it that way. I imagine I have some hacksaw skills. I'm not familiar with other trem unit options, I see Warmoth offers other routs like Gotoh, etc.
