Seems to be a trend of late to refer to a tele neck pup as a lipstick.

People call Danelectro's tubular chrome pups 'lipsticks' because they really do look like lipstick tubes. Maybe people are just borrowing (or confusing) the term.

Because they have that chrome (nickel) dome cover.

Archie, Nat Daniel's original Danelectro "lipstick" pickups actually used surplus chrome lipstick tubes.

He was looking for a cheap way to make a completely encapsulated and shielded single coil and found the lipstick cases perfect for the job.

I've never seen a damaged-coil lipstick in more than 35 years of working on guitars. They are indestructible.
