I'm always working on some technique I either can't do or can't do very well. I try to have 4 or 5 different things to work on that use different muscle groups so if I get fatigued doing one of them I can move on to another and keep going.

Today is one of those days when everything just worked. I could play things easily without mistakes and it was clean and precise at higher speeds than normal.

Days like this are what make me able to continue the Herculean task of improving my guitar playing.

As MLK said, "I have seen the promised land." Today it feels like I may have stepped into it a few feet. I may be banished from it tomorrow but, I'll take what I can get, when I can get it.

I love days like that! Occasionally, you can play like Superman and everything just flows, particularly when improvising.

I know exactly what you're talking about. It happens to me, but not as often as I'd prefer!

It's like making that One Great Shot out of 90 when playing 18 holes: it keeps you coming back.

"It happens to me, but not as often as I'd prefer!"

Isn't THAT the truth. I get frustrated with my progress at times. If I were to be more realistic with my short term goals maybe these days would happen more often. I don't dangle the carrot just out of reach, I need a telescope just to see it.

It seems to me that the more advanced I get as a player the longer it takes to overcome some of these hurdles. It may be age related but, it's likely that it has to do with the amount of time I have available to practice. When I was a kid it seems like I had days like this more often. Probably because I played guitar 4 to 8 hours every day and more on the weekends. If I had the time to do that now there's no telling what I could accomplish.
