Can you remember some of the songs you played publicly in your first band? I was in the 8th grade at the time and I barely remember playing-

Sprit in the sky
Hey Jude
Sugar Sugar
House of the rising son

I know we did 4 or 5 more at our first "performance" probably some Ventures tunes but I can't be certain.

Ramblin' Man

and a bunch of tunes off Dylan/The Band's Before The Flood, September 1974. A borrowed brown Tele Deluxe thru my brother's Traynor bass amp and 2 15's.

Brown Sugar

Those are the ones that I remember the most. This would have been 73-74 time frame when I was 14 or 15.

Summertime Blues
Route 66
Ain’t To Proud to Beg
Under the Boardwalk (a clever arrangement that drew heavily on an early B52s vibe)
Tenth Avenue Freeze Out
Rave On
Round and Round
Get Off My Cloud (another snappy arrangement)
... piles of party tunes. Stuff like that. It went down well and we liked it.

I have a tape of the first show.

Everything I later did, the roots are there.

And the only cover we ever did (everything else was originals and improv), "Astronomy Domine."

1976. It Don`t Come Easy, Brown Sugar, Road Angel (Doobies), Whipping Post, a Santana medley (Black Magic Woman/Oye Como Va), Wishing Well (Free), Albatross (Fleetwood Mac), Lay Lady Lay, Yesterday (part of an acoustic interlude, I might also do a ragtime instrumental or Mood For A Day by Steve Howe), a slide guitar instrumental boogie I wrote, something by Foghat (Long Way to Go?)... the rest is a blur. I remember listening back to a tape of an early gig, years later when I was a seriously wannabe fusion player. It was a lot better than I expected.

The Hustle
Isn't it Romantic
Sweet Loraine
Satin Doll
Girl from Ipanema
Ain't Misbehavin'

First gig, local Community Centre, approx 1977, aged 17. As far as I remember the whole set was "originals" apart from "Jumping Jack Flash" for some reason. I didn't know it so I mimed it ;-)
