For me, there's always time for Sam and Dave. IMHO, No other rendition ever topped the original 1967 release of Soul Man recorded at Stax Records in Memphis Tennessee.

Soul Man won a grammy in 1967. Here's a good story about the song with quotes from Steve Cropper:
