What do you all suggest as the best way to go about finding some like minded people to jam with? I'm new in town so I don't really know anybody.

Post a 3X5 card in local music stores and in the music department of local colleges.

Find a church with a strong P&W program and drop in early to listen and visit with them

Tell everyone at work you relax by playing guitar and are looking for someone to play along with you

In spring and summer keep your ears open for buskers and folks that just play in parks, ask if you can join in

As you make new friends, let them know you play and are looking to find others

Obviously CL, but I've been to Shreveport, nice town, and this is probably limited

Good luck and let us know your success....

Another vote for open mics. Seems like just about every town has one these days. Play and STAY. Might take a few times, but I'm betting you'll find people with similar interests and abilities who are looking for the same thing. Bonus, you get to hear them first before deciding if you want to get together.

Results not typical.

Do not try this at home.

Check meetup.com. I feel like it's little less sketchy than CL. If there isn't a group, you can start a group.
