Considering two Yamaha mixers. Both have enough channels, with 3 band eq on each. One is used, but has 2 more mic inputs and a 10 band graphic equalizer. The other unit (new) has 6 mic ins, four of which have compression.

So, for a 4 piece acoustic band with 3 vocalists and 3 guitars going into the board, which feature would be more useful, the EQ or the compression.

If they’re the same type of compressors that I have on my small Yamaha mixer I don’t find those particularly useful, as I can’t see what the compressor is doing. I believe some of the bigger boards have an indicator to let you know when the compressor is kicking in, but mine doesn’t. I don’t really hear a difference in the channel no matter where the knob is turned to.

My vote would be for the GEQ.

I like EQ's for the simple fact that I can see all the sliders even from 3 feet away. Plus it helps dial in a room better.

A compressor is an easy add-on separately from the mixer.
I would rather have 2 extra mic inputs. I think they would get more use than an onboard compressor IMO.

If you’re thinking compression for the acoustic guitars,
they make pedals for that ;^)

It's hard to have too many mic inputs. I'd go with that as opposed to a one-knob compressor.
