I think I made a good choice. Bought a 2018 Tide Pool Blue Fender Player Series P bass with a Maple neck/fretboard with Satin back of neck. Really like it. Haven’t had a P bass in quite a while. Even though I love my Jazz Basses and have a series/parallel switch for the pickups I got a good tone but not quite the traditional P bass tone. Now I own the best of both worlds plus they apparently put the wrong sale tag on it for $549 (should have been $649-$674) but they honored it. Good sounding and very nice feel. Unusual for a person that except for few occasions didn’t like the stock pickup.

Sorry my 66 year old mind has memory lapses. Originally said Oak neck and fretboard but changed it to maple. Hate when I cannot remember something that I have always before known.

Bubbalou............ That is one great looking bass. The colour might be called "Tide Pool Blue"
but it is a dead ringer for an original pre-CBS Lake Placid Blue.
Lake Placid Blue makes me go weak at the knees L.O.L.

Nice one!

Uncle Stack,

I know of your affection for Lake Placid Blue. Unfortunately that picture makes it look much darker than it really is. It's a great color, but not LPB.

stack, you are correct, It is Tide Pool Blue. Now that you mentioned it also looks very similar to a Classic Vibe 50's P Lake Placid Blue I once had. Wish I could put this one next to it just to see how close they are in color

Tide Pool is a little closer to being a shade of green. It’s a very nice, newer color from Fender. It’s about the same value as Ice Blue.

Thank you all. I am very happy so far. Neck straight, intonation spot on, Action low, no fret buzz. I usually put TI Jazz Flats on my bass but thought I would try D'Addario NYXL .050-.105 Nickel plated steel rounds. Very nice tone, so far liking them on this bass.

I've used D'Addario nickel rounds bass string for most of my jammin career. They have really good even tone across the board, easy on the fingers and relatively inexpensive.

Lou...just now seeing this. Sorry for the delay.

Love your new bass. I'm like Uncle Stack in that I love the look of old LPB, which Fender seems to get pretty close with the finish on this bass.

And the maple board!

What is not to like?

I have a maple board Fender P and I find myself going to it all the time. And I have Precisions that are far more expensive.

George, I ‘m not much for White pick guards so I put a black one on it. Much better. It is a good player. Ordered a Fender 63 pickup set for it. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving with your family

Thank you Danny. I really like the bass but in changing the pickguard I found something a little irritating. They used large size pots with solid shaft and Fender American knobs with a set screw but then from there "stupidity" set in. They were Korean Made pots with the shaft ever so slightly smaller 6mm while the knob is 6.35mm (.250")
I have ordered nice CTS Pots with .250" Shaft.
They did use a nice heavy duty switchraft ??? Output jack nd wiring was very neatly done though.
