FDP Forum / The 'Pup' Tent / Any Love for the Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAFs?

Nov 19th, 2018 11:27 AM   Edit   Profile

I am in my 50's and played in lots of local rock bands in the 70's and 80's and played lots of guitars then, and since then, with PAF type pups including Les Pauls and such. On a side-note, my main guitar back then was an Ibanez Les Paul that I bought in 1976 and loaded with active EMGs around 1980 for more crunch after ditching the stock ones.

My most recent guitar purchase in 2015 was an ESP/LTD Eclipse model (401VF Les Paul clone type with a full thickness mahogany body/neck and maple cap) that came stock with the 36th Dimarzios that I have been playing a lot in the past year (I have big hands and love the thin u neck profile) in favor of my Strats. I have to say that I am highly impressed with these pups and they continue to top the list on many forums as some of the best "reasonably priced" PAFs out there even going into 2018.

Anyone have a set of these?....My Daughter (25) is also a player and she has a Gibson Les Paul with their signature classics as well as a real ESP (Japan) Eclipse which she loaded with Bare Knuckles. I have to say, to my ears, that the 36th Dimarzio blows both of those two guitars away in terms of warmth, clarity, and picking/volume dynamics as well as most Pauls that I might pick up in a store from time to time.

These are my favorite aftermarket humbuckers. I've had several sets in a sundry of guitars over the years (nothing current, though, funny enough), but they sound great full and split and cover just about anything.

I put a set in a PRS SE24, gifted the guitar to my son, but sure loved those pups. They sound great and he loves that guitar.
