Since having to sell my 2011 Fender American Special I have not been happy. Special thin C neck and rolled edge fret board. Finally after 5 years I bought a Fender American Pro Jazz Bass. Finally happy once again. They made the necks of this series with Slim C profile and rolled edges. Body has less undercoat so the wood can breath. Strung it up with TI Jazz Flats thru the body (lend slight more tension and sustain is great). Easy playing, nice feel, great sustain and tone, Fabulous intonation and good action. The bridge is beefier (solid) compared to the Gotoh 402 I have on another bass.
I will sell everything else before I sell this bass. The search has been long but has been worth it.

I tried finding another Fender American Special but they are few and the ones I did find wanted $200-300 more than I paid for mine new in 2011. Finally got a lot of overtime at work and and about to retire and knew I probably wouldn’t be able to afford one then

OK, I Actually bought the 2017 American Pro Neck brand new from Sweetwater a few months ago then the 2017 American Pro Body "Used???" with original white pickgard(still had the plastic and sticker on it), Ferrules and Bridge. I could have gotten a new 2018 body without Ferrules, Bridge, or anything else but I kept looking at this nice 2017
American pro Jazz Body with ferrules, String through original Fender Bridge. They stated Mint with light signs of use but when I got it I could not find one flaw in it. I used A new Fender Black Pickguard (I had stored for 6 months), Aero Single Coil Pickups and Jazz Plate I put together last summer. So all in all I only had to pay slightly over half the price of a new one for the neck, body and Fender Tuners. This was the only way I could do it and not have my wife kill me in the process. ;)

The things I like about the American Pro vs. the American Standard are slim C neck profile, rolled edges, Bone Nut, lighter undercoat to allow wood to breathe. I think they have a winner here. Prior to this I preferred the American Special over the American Standard because of the neck profile. Fender claims the pickups (alnico II magnets in the E and A positions and Alnico V in the D,G,B,E) More Balanced tone but I have not tried them.

I bought an American Pro 5 string PBass just before christmas and have been loving it, my new #1 bass. Not a huge fan of the pickup though so had a Nordstrand built for it and it's almost here. Putting it in on the weekend for a gig saturday night. Love the neck and allover quality of the Pro series!!
