Okay, so reassessment time. I started out with the ES-339 Pro with the P-90s on my first review. I may have given up to soon, but I was not finding my groove with the P-90s. I need to revisit that, and see if I can work it out.

The amp sat for a few days, and then I went at it again with my Gibson SG Future with the 57 classics.

Whole different ballgame. Loving the amp now! The bottom end that was so muddy before cleaned up. Everything cleaned up harmonically.

Now I see what this little amp can do. It totally brings Marshall crunch, and over drive! The Feedback is there in full force. Actually I get all the feedback I need at 7-8.

Actually playing metal in Drop D on the ultra gain channel, I'm 7 on gain, and 7 on volume, deep switch in, Treble at 9, middle on 10, bass on 9.5, tone shift off.

Just set my SG down a few minutes ago after about 40 minutes Drop D mayhem!

It's easy to dial in when it feeds back. Very crunchy, very chinky chinky on the muted strings.

You'll likely need to make some radical eq and gain changes on the P90s versus the buckers - I end up having essentially two starting points on my little DSL1 - for buckers/Jaguar, and for the P90s (Casino/LP Jr DC).

Ya, I'll have to work on it, and really try some drastically different settings for the P-90s.

I noticed this with P-90s on my AVT 150 running the 339 pro, but it was not nearly as bad, and I worked it out pretty quick on the AVT 150. Of course the AVT is a hybrid so it's a bit different, and I was using pedals for distortion.

Might even need to tone it down on the guitar a bit and take the guitar volume off max which I'm guilty of living there.

Can't wait to hook up the 1960.

I snagged an nice DSL5 on Reverb pretty cheap. The previous owner cut a groove inside the bottom of the cab to try and stuff a 12” speaker in it. From the outside the amp is mint.

Great little amp! I did change the speaker to the Celestion 10” Greenback.

Really digging this amp! Great little Marshall.

BTW - I re-read this thread. I did come in well under the price I was hoping.

Awesome! Congrats, Leftee! Ya, they really sound righteous for a little 5 watt amp, especially through a larger cab or as you said, a larger speaker.

To be clear - the 12" speaker didn't work out for him - and I found out why when I tried. The preamp tubes came in contact with the speaker frame.

No harm, no foul.

It shipped with the stock Ten 30. I installed the 10" Greenback.

How does the Greenback sound compared to the stock speaker? Maybe I need one of those.

Well... more greenbacky.

It has more of the sweet Marshall midrange you'd expect. This particular speaker also sounds larger than a 10". I can't 'splain that any better.

AP is also running a 10% off sale through the weekend. Great time to snag one of these.

On sale it still exceeds the free shipping threshold.

I suspect you’ll dig it. I could be wrong. Sometimes that happens.

I didn't even put it in yet. Can you believe it?

I've been super busy lately with work, and around the house.

I'll get to it pretty soon. I will report back fo sho!
