FDP Forum / Fender Amps: 1985 - Current / Fender Super Champ X2 HD paired with Marshall MX212A?

Oct 9th, 2018 05:59 AM   Edit   Profile

Is there anyone who has tried SCX2HD with Marshall's MX212A (Vertical Slanted cab)
It has unit impedance 8 Ω, so it fits perfectly. And it has an attractive design for smaller spaces.
I have read a lot about Celestions Seventy 80 elements, but I would like to get information from someone who has really tried this combination.
It would suit my budget and I only play at home. Varies from jazz to rock (Gary Moore, John Norum). No harder metal.

I have also seen that Palmer makes affordable 2x12, someone who tested SCX2 HD with these? They have different element configurations to offer.

I have the 1x12 version of the extension cab in the same line, the MX112, same speaker.

It sounds decent at home volumes, I have no idea outside of that.

I've used it with a Hot Rod Deluxe (I have an attenuator that allows impedance swapping so it doesn't blow up on hand anyway), and it lives with the Marshall DSL1 fulltime.

It sounds like a closed-back Celestion-loaded cab.

Whether you like that with a Fender amp or not, I can't tell you.

I'm an Eminence/JBL guy for Fenders, but tried it since I had the cab for the Marshall head.

Ive seen the guitarist in a local band using an scx2 with a 2x12 cab and he sounded excellent. Not sure what make 2x12. Sorry.

Any small amp will sound far better through a larger speaker or multiple speakers.

Try a vintage Fender Champ through a 4x10 or 4x12 cab. Huge!

A Roland Microcube through a good 4x12 is a *beastly* tone. Set the model to Brit Stack and roll the gain almost all the way off. Crank the volume. Beastly.

Thanks guys!
Now I've tested the SCX2 HD through an old Fender London Reverb 1983 with two 10" Fender Special Design speakers. These are marked 67 on the edge of the element, showing that it's Eminence that made them. I have to say that it sounds excellent! I wrote to Eminence support who advised me that their Legend 10516 is the right way to update if you wish.

I have a Katana Mini and installed another speaker jack. Plugged it into a Fender 2x12 and it sounded great! And surprisingly loud. 7 watts is more than you'd expect!
