FDP Forum / Fender Guitars: Stratocasters / Eric Johnson Thinline Stratocaster Owner Roll Call

I recently acquired a Eric Johnson Thinline Stratocaster. I contacted Fender, but they could not tell me specifics on when it was built, where is was in the production run, or what is the 1st S/N of the very first EJ Thinline production guitar. Since this is a new model, I wanted to just have that info for future knowledge. I know I can pull the neck and pick guard, but I don't want to do that at this time yet.

EJ Thinline Stratocaster Owners, what is your S/N and do you know any build specifics on dates, etc. My S/N is EJ19325.

Thanks,
Ed

P.S. Love the guitar so far. I have only had it for a little over a week.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea of a Thinline Strat. Strats are already quite thin due to the body contours. They're also somewhat semi-hollow due to the trem/springs cavity.

I could see getting a Thinline Tele, but I'll pass on a Thinline Strat. But hey, whatever floats your boat. :)

Viera,

I really like it so far. I've owned previously a Regular EJ Strat. I don't notice a huge difference, but enough that I am pleased. I got it because at my age (63), weight is important and it is slightly lighter weight. (Under 7 lbs). Every ounce less helps me, but it does not detract from the sound. In fact, this is the first Strat I have ever played I am in love with the 4th position. Actually all PU positions are stellar. As you kind of said, "to each their own." I'm sold on it though.

Ed

P.S. I love Thinlines and have had several 69 & 72 Tele's over the years.

What's a thinline Strat? A hollowbody?

I'm glad you like your EJ Eddie.

I'm not getting any younger. One of these days weight could be an issue for me. Fortunately two of my Strats are very light, otherwise I might be looking at a thinline EJ.

Langford,

See the link below. It's not a complete hollowbody. It has upper and lower section hollowed out. Only the top has f hole... Does make slightly lighter weight, airier in tone like any guitar that is semi hollow.

or

I hope this helps.

I’d love one of these. A little out of my budget range though.

I do have a Deluxe Tele thinline. It’s under 7 lbs...good for my old back.

I don’t care for the VNs in it though.

There are used ones already out there for quite a bit less than the new ones on Reverb. I am sure over time they will fall in line with other EJ Strats.

To me one of my favorite things about any EJ Strat is the pickups. Think of your favorite song that has a Strat. This easily get that sound. Miles ahead of VN's. I've owned Eric Clapton Strats, but the PU's always were the let down, not the guitar itself.

Yep I liked the EC Strat except for the pickups!
Good point on going used.
