I ran across this accidentally the other day.
Anyone else seen it?

It looks like it could do several duties.
However, it's primary reason for being looks to be either a live sound mixer (with a recorder attached on) or a mixer (maybe also controller) for a DAW system.

I'm trying to figure out if it would work as a home stand alone porta studio.
If so, with the USB interface, it might provide a way to control MIDI devices like a drum machine.

For some time now, Tascam decided that MIDI (and CD drives) were no longer required or desireable on ANY of their porta studios.

Do you mean the DP24? It's been out for several years now. I have one and it is the bee's knees for hardware recording and processing. Love it.

They also make a DP32.

No, they have a new one out.

The thing for DAW control/use I don't get is no motorized faders.

It's huge.

Peegoo: Tascam no longer makes a DP24/DP32, and have not for some time. They offer and "SD" version which does not have a CD drive or MIDI.

As revrob said/confirmed, the Model 24 is a new unit. I don't know how long it's been out, probably since the last NAMM show.

I got an email about them a couple weeks back.

They're neat options for a standalone, but I honestly don't know how much of a market for that sort of thing is left.

Did the PC DAW thingy and all the hassles with interfacing and latency, even upgraded the PC. Finally went with the Tascam 24SD sent it back and got the 32SD which I should have done in the first place and haven't looked back. I can sit down and record a song in a night right there on the unit with physical knobs and sliders and ZERO latency or other issues. If you want you can record the basic tracks and then move to a DAW for mixdown and master but you can do that right on the Tascam.

Stinger: I believe that you have your model numbers wrong.

They should be DP-24SD and DP-32SD.

Stinger: The new one is the Tascam 24.
It does not have a "DP" or an "SD" in the part number.

Tascam's web site still shows as active the DP-24SD and DP-32SD, which is what I believe you have.
The "regular" DP-24 and DP-32 were discontinued a long time ago.

I love my DP-24. I gave up on dealing with latency a long time ago. I still mix in the box but record with a standalone - I'm very glad to see someone still making one of these, even if the market is small.
