So would you say an early SFPR (say '72) sounds the same as a late SFPR (say '78) with the pull boosts not pulled (all possible things being equal)? Thx for any input, guys.

About as ordinary as you can get.

I'd say any regular player could not tell you which was which in a blind test.
I have a '69, '73 and '78 SFPR and all are great sounding to me. I could just grab one and go to play any gig.

Read in the Fender Amp Book and see what it says. Very little difference.

Rite Bbend, Thx for your always great info. It's nice you have the SFPR range covered, bro. I just have an '81 SFPR (mint, all original) with the factory-installed black faceplate. Paid $800 including shipping on eBay in 2014. Tbh, don't really play it all that much since getting it. Oh well. Thx again!

Other than different component manufactures there really is no difference in the amps with the boost off. All the PRs sound good.

Thx for your input, Hammond. Just deciding if I should keep my '81 SFPR or get an earlier year. Thx again, man.

socal, if you like yours, keep it. You are going to be the biggest critic of you amp. Others don't know and don't care.
