FDP Forum / Fender Amps: 1985 - Current / 57 Custom Deluxe

I'm really surprised that I have not found much on here about this amp. Just bought one about three weeks ago and I'm just getting comfortable with it. It's really simple amp. Hand wired 12 watt single 12' speaker in a light weight pine cabinet. The amp weighs 29 lbs.Tweed covering of course.

It seems to be a great little amp for club work, as long as the band is not annoyingly loud. Takes pedals well too, not that I use many. A Reverb and a transparent overdrive is it for me and I have not been using the overdrive pedal much at all. The amp is really touch sensitive, so working with the volume control on the guitar and just digging in, really makes this amp bark.

It's been my "go-to" amp for a number of years. Love the sound & the weight. I use it with the Bad Cat Unleash V2 attenuator / re-amp unit to get any tone at any volume.

I have two Fender 57 Tweed Deluxes and the controls are very interactive. Check out the link to thoroughly understand how they work. You'll be watching it several times and taking notes. The amp is way more complex tonally than most people think for a simple three knob amp

I've had one since 2004. Love it when it works but it makes a whole bunch of farty, hissy, radio interference noises. It also distorts in a bad way when I hit strings hard at certain frets. I've never had a satisfactory answer as to why it does it. It's been amp tech time for a long time but I don't trust that I wont be ridiculously over charged for fault finding time.

Modal Magic - Sounds like you may have a bad and microphonic pre-amp tube. Try replacing the two small tubes on the right when looking at the amp from the back. The far right tube will be a 12AY7 and the next tube to the left of it will be a 12AX7. Try one at a time to see which one is faulty.

When power tubes are replaced in these, does the bias have to be checked/set?

The 5E3 circuit is cathode biased (output tubes). No adjustment is available aside from changing that resistor value.

Not to hijack but it's relevant here: anybody have an older '57 Deluxe and the newer '57 Custom Deluxe? I really liked the older one I had (2007?) with the P12Q.

How does the newer RI compare?
