Well, this is interesting:

https://view.joomag.com/distortion-ltd-24/0841274001529040239/p48?short

These are not very popular on this forum. For the record, tbey came stock in my 98' AmDlx and I have never felt the need to change them, but I am not really nitpicky about achieving vintage correct tones. My AmDlx came stock with the three 1 meg pots, but Fender later recommended a "fix" for a problem many players experienced with severe treble attenuation when you rolled down the volume knob to alter dynamics. I did also have this problem. The fix involved switching to a 500 k volume pot with a treble bleed cap and it worked great for me.

They perform as advertised. They might not sound exactly like a vintage-spec pickup, but they sound fine. If you record a lot and need all the noise-rejection help you can get, the VNs are a life saver.

The thing to remember is that a pickup is perhaps 30-40 percent of your overall tone. The amp is somewhere in the same range, and the rest is technique. The VNs sound great through some amps, and not so great through others. The same could be said for most pickups.

+1 on what Peegoo said.

I'm big fan of the VN's. I have them in multiple guitars.
I also have regular single coil guitars and quite comfortably switch between the two without adjusting my amp EQ. Yes, they sound different, but equally good IMO.

FWIW, I have them installed in some guitars with all 500k pots and some with all 250k pots. I can't here a significant difference but never felt the need to go up to the 1M pots.

I seem to remember that the fix Fender recommended left the 1 meg pots on the two tone knobs and changed only the volume pot from 1 meg to 500k with a treble bleed cap, but it has been a long time and I did not do the work myself. It definitely fixed the treble drop off problem.

I must be missing something. I have VN’s in my Tele Deluxe thinline. To me they sound muddy.

They also are not noiseless. Sweetwater tech explained they are not completely noiseless. What?

I’m comparing them to the pups in my Baja Tele.

Interesting...the VN's in my AmDlx Strat are very bright and very quiet...not muddy or noisy at all?
However, I have no experience with the VN's for Tele.

I installed vintage noiseless on my Squier affinity
according to the fender specs of 500k with treble bleed and 1 meg pots for the 2 tone pots. The middle and the bridge pickups are tied to 2nd tone pots. I have been more than happy with them for the last 18 years.

I think the pots on my Tele needed to be 500k rather than 1 megs.
I’ve gone a different direction though and am very happy with it now.

Mick, that’s pretty interesting. I don’t think I would have guessed about using the 250ks.

Probably what I needed with the VNs. I’ll take that into the future when considering noiseless pups again.
Thank you.

No worries. Sorry I haven't posted sound clips.

I recorded the tests in a methodical manner but putting them into logical and listenable format and posting them online seems like a big challenge to me.
