Some of my guitars are installed with Kluson-style tuners, mostly Strat and Tele style guitars. Thinking of doing some face-lifts to a few to match the aged pickguards, control knobs, pickup covers and darkened necks. I also have a bunch of plastic cream/ivoriod butter bean tuner buttons which I bought for reason I cannot even remember.

Has anyone changed them ?

Seems a bit aggressive but I guess it might just work.

Yes. I remove the tuners from the guitar, heat up the shaft, and press the new ones on. It takes a bit of practice to get the heat just right, so expect some goofiness until you get the hang of it.

I've replaced a lot of tuner buttons restoring old lap steel guitars. It's easy actually. Yes, remove the tuners for sure. I heat the tuner shaft with a torch then slide on the button. Wear gloves and have a very damp cool rag right next door for cooling.
